Self Portriats

Here are my self portraits. It took me a while to figure out how to take the picture, but in the end it worked out I think. Either way the model of me is there and that's what's important! I made it look like me, I thought that was the best representation. I am holding a pokeball because it really symbolizes how I grew up. Pokemon was my first game and I still play it. On my back I have a Mr.Saturn backpack. I put that there because the Mother series is my favorite video games and I feel that is a great way to describe myself. I also have headphones on  because of my love for music. I am a music major so I felt something needed to be there to represent that part of me. Blue is my favorite color and purple is a close second, which is why I chose those colors. I also got the comment that I resemble an Animal Crossing character, which is also one of my favorite games. Blender was easier to figure out after a while, I had trouble at first figuring out how to get the color but it came together. In the end I felt it was very fun to work on all the little detail I put into myself. At first when I was trying to think of everything in lines like I do with drawing it wasn't coming out; however, when I thought of things in shapes it started making much more sense.

Video Project!

Here is my finished video project. It is based on the film "Music of Your Own" by People Like Us. This video was an interesting one to try and film. Our dog would not cooperate most of the time so we had to have someone off screen helping him. We also had to improvise a last minute siren. The film used a lot of forward and backward clips and so in mine I did the same. Most of the longer scenes are just one clip playing and then playing again in reverse. I used Adobe Premiere to edit the video which made the fading in and out effects really easy to add. I also had to add out a few small parts where the child in the original throws the bread. There's one scene that shows him tearing off a piece up close and we couldn't think of a way to make our dog do that. It seemed really pieced together when I was starting, but when the clips came together I feel it made a good project.

Video Project update

So far with my video project I have yet to start filming. I just got a new phone which has a better camera, so I was waiting for that before starting that process. I have planned out my video though. I have decided that I am going to take the video People Like Us made called "Music of Your Own" and film it scene by scene exactly how they did; however, I will be replacing all of the people with animals. The only scene I can see difficult is when the little boy feeds the ducks at the end. I don't think I cant get any animal to patiently sit there as geese walk up to it. (Or make geese walk up to it for that matter) So that scene may be slightly switched.

Reading 2 questions

Here are my two questions for the second reading assignment:

1. A little over 20 years ago Sadie Benning used a toy camera to video tape herself in high school. She wanted to document her feelings as she was beginning to experience sexual maturity. Since then technology has come a long way. How would a teenager today approach the same art idea? How would the recording technique and ideas change?

2. Early on in the reading it discusses that the artist's video should differ from a video for an advertisement because it is not meant for mass consumption. It also states that art should be distinguished from the uses of video, no matter how artful they seem. Where do we draw that line? Can we relate that to other mediums or art forms?

I have chosen the video "Music of Your Own" by People like Us. I think this video is humorous and will be fun to replicate in our project. I enjoy the music in the background when comparing the subject. I have never used a camera before and I feel this video is a good one to start with. It still gets the point across and doesn't use too many effects.

Video game art project

So, for anyone who doesn't know my fiance is doing an art project where he is illustrating a sound track to a video game he has never played. It is kinda like Fantasia, only with video games. The project isn't free and he needs help raising money. Now, I know not everyone has a little extra cash but sharing helps just as much as donating! I really appreciate the two worlds of art and music coming together, especially when it is over something shared such as a video game.

Project 3 Finished

Here is my video with sound. The rockets and explosion were found online and the rest were recorded. It has also been lengthened since the original animation. Different percussion instruments such as wind chimes, sleigh bells and a ratchet were used. Vocal sound effects also helped.

Project 2

Here is my half of project 2. It was originally suppose to be 10 seconds, and when I timed it it came out to 12 seconds; however, when uploaded it only came out to 7 seconds but I can easily lengthen the frame rate later. The concept behind this is that the business man realizes he is unhappy, so he breaks through the screen and into the universe where he then explodes and transforms into a dragon. This is his desire to go from an in the rut business man to be creative and break free from every day.

Project 1 Finished!

This project was to create two images with the theme of Fantasy and Reality using Photoshop. Here are the two images my partner (http://mikkikeirstead.blogspot.com/) and I chose. All of the images in each photograph represent adulthood aka reality (the PDA and coffee) and childhood aka fantasy (the pokemon and the dragon). The one word, "dream" that is found in both images has a different meaning to both. For the adult, it's the American dream, and the dream of being grown up. For the child, the word Dream represents the creativity and innocence that is childhood. The first image was done by me. It represents adulthood and is suppose to resemble a man walking to work. The second image was done by Mikki. It represents childhood and resembles a dragon.

Project 1

My partner and I decided to each do the two images assigned, then we picked each others that we liked the best for the final project. Here are our four images, in the next post I will show the final two and write a brief description about them.
